Not the most spacious or most comfortable SUV available, but Wrangler offers a seamless combination of classic and modern Jeep trailers. A good view of the road — or trail — makes it easy to get around, but thick roof beams, pullbacks obscure the rearview, and various grip handles. Need a better idea? Just pop up and clear the doors. Sitting near a straight front window, the driver and front passenger look at a small, square dashboard with hoop air ducts and climate control devices, power windows (if installed), and infotainment. As a commissioned runner, the Wrangler provides ample food and gear, but be careful that its rear seats do not bend down. As you might expect, there is a significant trade in shipping with the old Wrangler two-door component compared to the larger four-door Unlimited model. Putting only two of our backpacks in the back seat of two doors — compared to 10 of four doors — means packing light when traveling with friends.
The previous-generation 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6 Wrangler fits under the new JL and can be fitted with an eight-speed manual transmission or a six-speed manual gearbox. The turbocharged four-cylinder engine is optional and combines with an electric motor to provide additional low-end power. In addition to the standard V-6 and four-cylinder hybrid, the Wrangler can also be fitted with a 3.6-liter V-6 with the same hybrid assist, a 3.0-liter diesel V-6; a new, 375-hp plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrain and a 6.4-liter V-8 are also available.
