It’s not the most accommodating or spacious SUV available, but the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited offers a seamless combination of a vintage and modern Jeep character. The road – or trail’s clear view makes it easy to navigate, but the way back is hidden by thick roof columns, roll bars, and various grip handles. Need a better idea? Just open the top and remove the doors. Seated next to vertical air protection, the driver and front passenger face a small, square dashboard with round air beams and a flexible switch for climate control, power windows (if installed), and infotainment. Wrangler offers ample food and gear as a dispatched runner, but be careful that its rear seats don’t bend down. As you might expect, there is a great deal of freight forwarding to go with the Wrangler with two old doors compared to the larger four-door unlimited model.
The standard 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6 from the previous generation Wrangler goes its way under the hood of the new JL and can be paired with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox. A turbocharged cylinder engine is preferred and combines with an electric car to provide extra low power. In addition to the standard V-6 and four-cylinder hybrid option, the Wrangler can also be equipped with a 3.6-liter V-6 with the same hybrid-assist, 3.0-liter V-6 diesel; a new, 375-hp plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrain and 6.4-liter V-8 are also available. Wranglers are born off-road, so a four-wheel-drive part-time drive is standard throughout the range and is controlled by a lever in the center console.
